Sinabi ni BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. na ang electronic marketplace operators ang nagsimuláng magpataw ng buwís sa mga online traders.
Ipinaliwanag niyá na hindî na bagong buwís ang sinimuláng ipataw kundî ito ay isáng urî na ng advance payment sa kabuuáng buwís na dapat bayaran ng online seller.

Nakasaád sa Revenue Regulations (RR) No. 16-2023 na magpapataw ng 1% witholding tax sa kalahatì ng kabuuáng remittances ng e-marketplace operators sa online traders sa mga produkto o serbisyo na binayaran sa pamamagitan ng kaniláng platform.
Sakop nitó ang marketplaces para sa online shopping, food delivery, pag-book ng lodging accomodations, at ibá pang urì ng mga online service para sa mga produkto at serbisyo.
