Nahalal si Senator Pia Cayetano sa Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)- Standing Committee on UN Affairs at siya ang kinatawan ng Asia – Pacific Group (APG).
Samantalang, si Rep. Maria Rachel Arenas (Pangasinan, 3rd district) ay napili din sa IPU Standing Committee on Sustainable Development.
Sinabi ni Cayetano na bukod sa makasaysayan ang pagkakahalal sa kanila ni Arenas ng mga kapwa Members of Parliament, patunay ito na ng kahusayan sa pamumuno ng mga Filipina.
“It’s an honor to be elected Bureau Member of the IPU’s Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs, representing the Asia-Pacific Group (APG),” ani Cayetano, na pinamunuan ang delegasyon ng Philippine Senate sa 146th IPU Assembly in Manama, Bahrain.
Nabanggit niya na sinuportahan siya ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.
“The unprecedented election of two Filipinas to key IPU committees signals a vote of confidence in the leadership skills, not just of Filipinos, but of women as well, as the feat coincided with our celebration of Women’s Month,” ayon pa sa senadora.
Dagdag pa niya; “I look forward to articulating the agenda and concerns of the Philippines and Asia-Pacific nations before the UN.”
