Naaresto ng intelligence officers ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang 158 dayuhan sa taong 2021 dahil sa paglabag sa Philippine Immigration Laws.
Ayon kay BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, nahuli ang illegal aliens sa ikinasang operasyon ng mga miyembro ng Intelligence Division ng ahensya sa iba’t ibang parte ng bansa.
Lumabas sa datos na karamihan sa mga naaresto ay Chinese (86), sumunod ang mga Koryano (37), at Nigerians (10).
Nahuli rin ang anim na Indian, apat na Amerikano, apat na British nationals, tatlong Japanese, dalawang Indonesians, isang Dutch, isang German, Tunisian, Cambodian, Lebanese, at isang Singaporean.
Ani Morente, mas mababa ang nasabing bilang sa 510 na naaresto noong 2020 dahil sa ipinatutupad na travel restrictions.
“Since only those with valid and existing long term visas are allowed entry in the country, we saw a major decrease in the number of foreign nationals in the Philippines,” saad ni Morente at dagdag nito, “Apart from that, many of those who were already in the country were repatriated back to their homelands.”
Maliban sa nahuli ng Intelligence Division, napaulat ang pagkakaaresto ng Fugitive Search Unit ng BI sa 83 dayuhang pugante, kung kaya umabot sa 241 ang total arrested aliens.
Malaking hamon, ani Morente, ang pandemya sa kanilang operasyon.
“However, we will not stop until we have rid the country of these illegal aliens who do not respect our laws. We will find them, arrest them, and deport them,” babala nito.
