Sa pagkakabasura ng drug cases ni Kerwin Espinosa, sinabi ni Senator Leila de Lima na ito ay dapat na magsilbing paalala sa Department of Justice (DOJ) na usigin ang mga totoong kriminal at tigilan na ang pagsasampa ng mga gawa-gawang kaso laban sa mga oposisyon.
Sinabi pa nito mga inosenteng tao ang naghihirap sa ‘selective prosecution’ ng administrasyong-Duterte.
“I fully concur. But Aguirre’s DOJ should have displayed the same vigor exhibited in running after me in pursuing these cases vs. Espinosa, et. al. With their misplaced zeal and wrongful prosecution of an innocent target, rule of law and suffer. An innocent suffers while the real guilty malefactors benefit therefrom,” ayon sa senadora.
Una nang pinagbigyan ni Makati City RTC Judge Gina Bibat-Palamos ang petisyon ni Espinosa na balewalain ang mga ebidensiya sa dahil sa kabiguan ng prosekusyon na patunayan ang kanyang pagkakasala.
Agad naman inutusan ni Guevarra si Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento na iapila ang desisyon.
Kabilang si Espinosa sa mga testigo laban kay de Lima.
“That was all they cared for and what mattered to them. Kailangan nilang gumamit ng mga ‘yan para idamay ako. It didn’t matter to them that the charges against them would stick as long as there’s something they could use in theur demolition job against me,” dagdag pa ng senadora.
