Pumalag ang Palasyo ng Malacañan sa planong imbestigasyon ng Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) kaugnay sa sinasabing political persecution sa mga kritiko ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na sina Senador Leila de Lima at Antonio Trillanes IV.
Ayon kay Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, tahasang pangingialam na ang gagawin ng IPU sa usaping panloob ng Pilipinas.
Wala aniyang layunin ang resolusyong nabuo ng IPU sa ika-139 na assembly nito sa Geneva, Switzerland kundi ang ilagay sa masamang imahe ang bansa at magsagawa ng isang one-sided evaluation.
“We consider such actions as interventions of our domestic affairs for they do not only show the Philippines in a bad light in front of the global community but worse, such one-sided evaluations infringe on our sovereignty,” ani Panelo.
Payo ni Panelo sa IPU, iwasan na lamang ang pagpapalabas ng mga pahayag dahil umiiral naman ang justice system sa Pilipinas.
Ayon kay Panelo, nakababahala ang mga pahayag ng IPU dahil sa posibilidad na maimpluensyahan ang pasya ng hukuman sa bansa.
“We therefore ask the IPU to refrain from commenting further in the aforementioned cases as these are veiled attempts to influence the outcome of the cases, which are now pending before our local courts. In any case, we assure the IPU or any global organization that our justice system in the Philippines remains independent, and effective,” dagdag pa nito.
Si de Lima ay nakakulong ngayon dahil sa kaso ng iligal na droga habang itinutulak naman ng pamahalaan na maibalik si Trillanes sa kulungan dahil sa diumano’y kwestyunableng legalidad ng kanyang amnestiya dahil sa kasong kudeta.
“It is apparent that this organization of foreign parliamentarians does not respect the ongoing proceedings being conducted by our courts of justice when it reached an incredible conclusion on the cases involving Senators de Lima and Trillanes,” ayon pa kay Panelo.
