Isyu sa citizenship ni Sen. Poe tiyak na babagsak sa SC – Drilon

Tanging ang Supreme Court at hindi ang Senate Electoral tribunal ang may pinal na desisyon sa quo warranto petition na inihain ni Rizalito David laban kay Senador Grace Poe.

Ayon kay Senate President Franklin Drilon, ano man ang maging desisyon ng SET, pabor man o kontra kay poe ay tiyak na idudulof ito sa Kataas-taasang Hukuman.

Sinabi pa ni Drilon na dapat na resolbahin kaagad ng SET ang reklamo laban kay Poe para magkaroon pa ng panahon ang SC na magbigay ng desisyon bago magsimula ang election period.

“Therefore, it is very crucial for the SET to be able to come out with a decision at the earliest time possible, in order to give the High Court sufficient time to hear the case and render a verdict before the election period kicks off,” paliwanag ni Drilon.

Kinukwestyun ni David ang citizenship ni Poe dahil maaring hindi ito natural born Filipino dahil sa pagiging ‘foundling’ nito.

Ayon kay Drilon, apat lamang sa siyam na miyembro ng SET ang abogado kung kaya napaka-crucial ng desisyon ng SET.

Nabatid na tanging sina Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro, Associate Justice Arturo D. Brion, at Sen. Pia S. Cayetano lamang ang mga abogado.

Samantala, ang ibang miyembro ay hindi mga abogado ay sina nina Senators Vicente Sotto III, Nancy Binay, Bam Aquino, Loren Legarda, at Cynthia Villar.
