Kalagayan ng coral reefs sa bansa, bumubuti ayon sa Biodiversity Management Bureau

Bumubuti ang kalagayan ng coral reefs sa bansa, ngunit 4% lamang nito ang nasa “excellent condition,” ayon sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Ayon kay Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) ecosystems management specialist Carlita Manlapaz, batay sa ulat ng 2017 State of Coast, bumaba ang bilang ng coral reefs na nasa “poor condition” sa 18%.

Dagdag ni Manlapaz, tumaas naman sa 46.6% ng coral reefs ang nasa “fair” condition, habang 31% naman ang nasa “good” condition.

Ayon kay BMB chief of Integrated Coastal and Marine Partnership Section Nilda Baling, kinakailangang madagdagan ang bilang ng marine protected areas sa bansa.
