Intellectual Property Code nais maamyendahan sa Senado
Inaasahang magsasagawa na ang Senate Committee on Trade and Industry ng pagdinig para sa dalawang panukala na maamyendahan ang Republic Act 8293 o ang Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
Ipinasa ang batas noon pang 1997 kayat naghain ng magkahiwalay na panukala sina Sens. Bong Revilla Jr., at Jinggoy Estrada upang ito ang maamyendahan.
Ipinaliwanag ni Estrada na layon ng inihain niyang Senate Bill 2150 na alisin ang access sa online sites na nagpapadali sa “piracy” at magkaroon ng mga paraan na maharang it0.
“Considering the pervasiveness of these illegal activities which severely hamper the growth of the creative economy and lead to loss of jobs or displacement of workers, there is a need to establish regulations and effective mechanisms to protect intellectual property rights,” paliwanag ni Estrada.
Sa Senate Bill 2385 naman ay nais ni Revilla na pagtibayin pa ang mandato ng Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines para mabigyan kapangyarihan ito na pigilan ang “authorized access” na lumalabag sa copyright.
Diin ng senador napakahalaga na magkaroon ng paraan para mapigilan ang “piracy” at mapangalagaan ang entertainment industry sa bansa.
Nakasaad sa dalawanng panukala ang pagpapataas ng mula sa mga lalabag na P100,000 hanggang P1 milyon at dagdag pa na P10,000 sa kada araw ng paglabag.
