Suportado ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang pagdaraos ng FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 (FBWC) sa Agosto.
Sa pagdalaw ng mga miyembro ng FIBA Central Board kasama ang delegado mula sa Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) sa Malacañang, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na ang isports ay isa sa larangang binibigyang-pansin ng kanyang administrasyon.
Sa pagdaraos ng FBWC sa bansa, sinabi ni Marcos na maasaahan ng organisasyon ang buong suporta ng pamahalaan.
Ginanap ang huling FBWC sa bansa noong 1978 sa panunungkulan ni dating Pangulong Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
“I was there when my father first tossed the ball and I’m quite pleased to be able to — I didn’t realize that that was the first time that it happened here in the Philippines,” ani Pangulong Matrcos.
“And I’m happy that I will be there for the time that it will — the FIBA events will return — World Cup now, will return to the Philippines. So it would be an honor for me to reenact perhaps, reenact what my father did in 1978,” dagdag pa nito.
Pinuri rin ni Pangulong Marcos ang mga opisyal ng FIBA at SBP Chairman Emeritus at FIBA member Manuel Pangilinan sa pagsusumikap nito upang maisagawa ang kompetisyon sa bansa.
Mataas ang kumpiyansa ng pangulo na magiging matagumpay ang World Cup 2023 lalo na’t popular ang basketball sa bansa.
Ang FIBA ay asosasyon na binuo pa noong 1932 upang pamahalaan ang mga kompetisyon sa larong basketball.
