Zubiri, Legarda itinulak ang pag-apruba sa RCEP

Kapwa hiniling nina Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri at Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda sa kanilang mga kapwa senador ang pagratipika sa kontrobersyal na Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement.

“Let me emphasize as a premise that in a globalized economy, the Philippines cannot afford to isolate itself from the rest of the world or even send a signal to that effect,’’ sabi ni Zubiri.

Kumpiyansa ito na mararatipikahan ang kasunduan sa susunod na linggo.

Sa bahagi naman ni Legarda, ibinahagi nito na masusi niyang tinimbang ang RCEP at paniwala niya, makakabuti ito sa halip na makasama sa sektor ng agrikultura ng bansa.

Sa kanyang palagay, mas magiging malawak ang pagbebentahan ng mga produktong agrikultural ng bansa gaya ng pinya, sabaw ng buko, papaya, at durian.

Maari din itong maging daan para sa pagpasok ng mga dayuhang mamumuhunan.

“My decision to lend support to the ratification of RCEP is premised on my conviction that an open, transparent and predictable trade and investment environment generates new opportunities for everyone,” ani Legarda.

Labing anim na senador ang pumirma sa committee report na nagrekomenda na maratipikahan ang RCEP agreement.

Marami din sa mga miyembro ng gabinete ni Pangulong Marcos Jr., ang nasa plenaryo bilang pagpapakita ng suporta sa RCEP agreement.
