Philip Morris International (PMI) magbubuhos ng $150M sa Pilipinas

Inanunsiyo ng Philip Morris International (PMI) ang plano na mamuhunan ng P8.8 bilyon sa Pilipinas para mapalawak ang paggawa ng kanilang ‘smoke-free products.’

Sa planong ito ng PMI, makakalikha ng 220 trabaho para sa mga Filipino bukod pa sa masusuportahan ang lokal na industriya ng tabako.

Kasama sa ipupuhunan ay ang expansion ng kanilang state-of-the art factory sa Tanauan City, Batangas para sa paggawa ng heated tobacco sticks para sa kanilang smoke-free products.

Inaasahan na ang produksyon ng mga bagong produkto ay magsisimula  na rin sa susunod na taon.

“We are proud to invest in the country’s journey to finally rid society of cigarettes, by providing those who would otherwise continue to smoke with better alternatives, while helping generate revenues for the government and livelihood opportunities to the people,” sabi ni Denis Gorkun, president ng PMFTC.

Ito na ang maituturing na pinakamalaking pamumuhunan sa alternatibo sa sigarilyo sa bansa, bukod pa sa makikinabang din ang kabuhayan ng mga nagtatanim ng tabako hanggang sa sari-sari stores.

“Through PMI’s continued investment in research, development and production, we can now heat tobacco in a way that is satisfying to adult smokers. Using sophisticated electronics, IQOS precisely heats specially designed tobacco units just enough to release a flavorful nicotine-containing vapor,” dagdag pa ni Gorkun.

Noong 2020, inilunsad ng PMFTC Inc., ang IQOS tobacco heating system, ang unang smoke-free product ng PMI na ginagamit ang patented HeatControl™ Technology na hindi sinusunog ang tabako.
