Bagong PCG Western Visayas headquarters, pinasinayaan na
Pinangunahan ni Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade ang inagurasyon ng bagong Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Headquarters sa Western Visayas, araw ng Lunes, November 8.
Sa kaniyang talumpati, nagparating ng pasasalamat si Tugade kina dating Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar at Iloilo City Rep. Julienne Baronda para sa pagpopondo, pagbuo ng konsepto, at pagtatayo ng bagong PCG district headquarters sa Barrio Obrero sa Lapuz, Iloilo City.
Layon aniya ng bagong headquarters na mapagtibay at masuportahan ang presensya ng maritime force sa naturang rehiyon.
Ibinahagi rin ng kalihim na mag-oorganisa ang PCG ng Philippine Shore Auxiliary volunteers, na makatutulong sa pagdadagdag ng workforce sa bansa.
“Kailangan pangalagaan ‘yung coastal. Hindi lang pinapangalagaan ‘yung hanapbuhay ng fisherfolk, hindi lang nito sinisiguro na mapipigilan ‘yung illegal transport of drugs, hindi lang pinapangalagaan ‘yung safety and security ng bansa sa mga coastal towns,” saad ni Tugade.
Dagdag nito, “The Philippine Coast Guard has flown high. We started with merely 6,400 people. Now we are going to 21,000 members. I expect more. I want the PCG to have more members that’s why I want to have auxiliaries.”
Ipinag-utos din ng kalihim kay Philippine Ports Authority (PAA) General Manager Jay Santiago ang pagtatayo ng pier sa PCG district headquarters.
