Pangulong Duterte nagbilin sa ASEAN Summit na dapat palakasin ang AUKUS security pact
Hinimok ni Pangulong Duterte ang mga kapwa lider ng mga bansang miyembro ng ASEAN na magkaroon sila ng tunay na matibay at malinaw na kooperasyon sa usaping pang-seguridad sa rehiyon.
Aniya dapat pagtibayin ang UUKUS trilateral security pact ng Australia, United Kingdom at US.
Sinabi ito ng Punong Ehekutibo sa 9th ASEAN – US Summit na dinaluhan ni US President Joe Biden.
“Arrangements such as the AUKUS trilateral security partnership, however, add a new element to consider within the region. We take full account of statements that AUKUS will promote peace and stability in our region and maintain support for ASEAN Centrality,”pahayag ng Pangulong Duterte.
Layunin ng AUKUS deal na paigtingin ang peace, security, at defense cooperation sa Indo-Pacific.
Pinasalamatan din ng Pangulo ang US dahil sa pakikipagtulungan sa ASEAN sa maritime security at binanggit nito ang pagsuporta ng US sa pagkakapanalo ng Pilipinas sa International Arbitral Court kontra China noong 2016.
