Passport fixers sa Facebook sumasalamin sa kapos na serbisyo publiko

Pinuna ni Senator Leila de Lima ang napaulat na malaganap na operasyon ng passport fixers sa online networking site.

Bunga nito, inihain ni de Lima ang Senate Resolution 921 para maimbestigahan ng kinauukulang komite sa Senado ang isyu na aniya ay sumasalamin sa hindi maayos na serbisyo ng gobyerno.

Aniya layon ng resolusyon na mawala na ang ‘red tape’ at mapagbuti pa ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ang kanilang passport renewal service.

“The presence of red-tape in government transactions makes for a veritable breeding ground for ‘fixers’ who capitalize and exploit these systemic inefficiencies for financial gain,” sabi ng namuuno sa Senate Committee on Social Justice.

Aniya dahil sa paglipat ng mga ahensiya sa online transactions, sinamantala na rin ito ng mga fixers, na nagagawang makakuha ng multiple online reservations para sa passport renewal.

Ang kanilang reservations ay ipinagbibili naman nila sa pamamagitan ng Facebook sa mga desperadong makapag-renew ng passport sa pinakamabiis na paraan.

“Passporting services address key human rights issues such as the right to identity and nationality, and right to travel. If we allow predatory individuals to restrict our citizens’ access to these services for profit, we would also, in effect, aid and abet the violation of the said rights,” dagdag pa nito.
