Pinagtibay ng isang memorandum of agreement sa pagitan ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at National Security Council (NSC) ang pagpapalakas ng pagbabantay sa teritoryo ng Pilipinas.

Gagamitin ng dalawang ahensiya ang SAR with AIS Project (Synthetic Aperture Radar and Automatic Identification System for Innovative Terrestrial Monitoring and Maritime Surveillance) para tiyakin na ligtas ang interes ng bansa.

“From this day onward, the Council and the Department have officially committed to endeavor on one of our projects geared towards terrestrial and maritime monitoring,” sabi ni Sec. Fortunato de la Peña.

Dagdag pa niya, “the project enables us to conduct simultaneous ship detection on our waters as well as generate vital maps on different environmental and disaster applications.”

Paliwanag pa ng kalihim ang naka-sentro ang kasunduan sa pagkuha at pag-aaral sa lahat ng mga datos na makukuha ng SAR at IAS sa kalupaan at karagatan ng Pilipinas.
