Sen. Win Gatchalian humingi ng suporta para sa mga bakuna na Made in the Philippines
Hinikayat ni Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian ang gobyerno na pag-aralan na ang posibilidad na makagawa ang Pilipinas ng sariling bakuna.
Aniya dapat nang kumilos ang Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at pag-aralan ang pagbibigay insentibo sa mga lokal na negosyante, maging sa mga banyagang mamumuhunan na gagawa ng bakuna sa bansa.
“Access to these vaccines has been most challenging to countries like ours. But in the event that patent rights will be waived by member-countries of the World Trade Organization (WTO), we must seize the opportunity and start laying the groundwork as early as now so we can produce our own COVID-19 vaccines,” ayon kay Gatchalian.
Idinagdag pa nito ang pangangailangan na magtayo ng vaccine development facilities para sa research, training ng scientists at physicians at para na rin sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa pharmaceutical companies.
Dagdag pa ni Gatchalian kailangan na rin magtayo ng mga imprastraktura para pagtibayin pa ang storage and logistics capability sa pagdadala ng mga bakuna sa ibat-ibang bahagi ng bansa.
“While we continue to be import-dependent for now for our COVID-19 vaccine supply to meet the goal of herd immunity, we should not be deterred from being self-sufficient when it comes to vaccine production,” hirit pa ng senador.
