Nasasayang na gulay, hiniling ni Sen. Ralph Recto na bilihin at ibigay sa ‘community pantries’

Sa halip na masayang at malugi pa lalo ang mga magsasaka, inihirit ni Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto na bilhin na lang ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang mga sobra-sobrang gulay.

Aniya, ang mga ito ay maaring iambag ng DA sa mga nagsusulputang community pantries sa Metro Manila at ilang lalawigan.

“May mga pictures na tinatapon na lang ang kamatis kasi walang bumibili. Bakit hindi na lang ito bilhin ng pamahalaan at ipamigay sa mga komunidad na nagtayo ng sarili nilang food banks?” sabi ni Recto.

“You don’t have to be a genius to dispatch sweeper trucks and buy directly from vegetable farmers. You help both the farmers and the consumers,” dagdag pa niya.

Dapat din aniya kung tutulong ang gobyerno sa community pantries, gawin na lang ito nang mabilis at hindi na kailangan pa na ipaalam sa publiko.

Sabi pa ni Recto, sa nangyayaring pagsulpot ng ‘community pantries;’ “But what is happening now is that the food-producing poor are helping the food-consuming poor. If they can do it, why can’t big-budgeted agencies do the same?”
