Fact-finding committee, binuo ng BI para sa imbestigasyon sa pagpapaalis sa 44 biktima ng human trafficking patungong Syria

Nagsasagawa na ng imbestigasyon ang Bureau of Immigration (BI) ukol sa pagpapaalis sa 44 biktima ng human trafficking patungong Syria.

Sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, na pinamumunuan ni Senator Risa Hontiveros, sinabi ni BI Commissioner Jaime Morente na nakatanggap siya ng impormasyon mula sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs ukol sa 44 kababaihan sa Syria na nabiktima ng human trafficking syndicates.

Agad ipinag-utos ni Morente ang pagbuo ng fact-finding committee upang malaman kung paano nakaalis ng Pilipinas ang mga biktima.

Inihayag din nito sa pagdinig ang kaniyang kahandaan na tumulong sa Senate Committee para sa pag-iimbestiga sa insidente.

“I am at a loss for words from what I heard. Ako sa totoo lamang ay nahihiya,” pahayag nito at aniya pa, “I am disappointed and frustrated about the alleged involvement of BI personnel in these nefarious activities.”

Ani Morente, nasa 28 immigration officers ang iniimbestigahan na hinihinalang sangkot sa insidente.

Humingi na rin aniya sila ng tulong sa Department of Justice para sa pag-iimbestiga sa mga sangkot.

“As already proven in the past, we will not hesitate to make them face the harshest penalties,” pagtitiyak ni Morente.

Ang umano’y pagkakasangkot ng ilang BI personnel sa insidente ay magbibigay ng hindi magandang pangalan sa ahensya.

“It is unfair to many good immigration officers who perform their jobs religiously and faithfully, especially those involved in activities of the IACAT (Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking),” saad pa nito.
