Anti-terrorism law idinepensa ng pangulo sa kaniyang talumpati sa UN Assembly

Idinepensa ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang kontrobersyal na Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 sa kaniyang kauna-unahang talumpati sa United Nations General Assembly.

Sa pre-recorded video, tinawag ng pangulo na epektibong “legal framework” laban sa terorismo ang naturang batas.

Binanggit ng pangulo ang nangyaring Marawi Siege na maraming dayuhang terorista ang kabilang sa mga umatake.

“The Marawi siege, where foreign terrorist fighters took part, taught us that an effective legal framework is crucial. Our 2020 Anti-Terrorism Act shores up the legal framework by focusing on both terrorism and the usual reckless response to it,” ayon sa pangulo.

Sinabi ng pangulo na sa pagbuo ng naturang batas ay tiniyak ang pagsunod sa Security Council resolutions at sa UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

Ang Anti-Terrorism Act ay nilagdaan ng pangulo bilang ganap na batas noong July 3 sa kabila ng maraming kritisismo at pagtutol dito.
