Nangangamba si Senator Grace Poe na kapag hindi agad natugunan ng gobyerno ang dumadaming kaso ng pang-aabuso sa loob ng mga tahanan habang may pandemiya ay maaring magdulot ito ng pangmatagalan problema.
Ibinahagi ni Poe sa kanyang talumpati sa pagdiriwang ng National Women’s Month ng Office of the Army Gender and Development ang ulat mula sa Malakanyang na simula nang umiral ang enhanced community quarantine, nakapatala ng higit 3,600 reklamo ng pang aabuso sa mga kababaihan at bata.
Sinabi rin ng senadora na may pahayag ang Department of Justice na nang magsimula ang lockdown ay dumami ang child exploitation materials na nagmumula sa bansa.
“With the imposition of the lockdown, women and children could be trapped in homes they share with the very people causing their physical, psychological and sexual abuse,” sabi ng senadora.
Hiniling niya na kasabay nang pagharap sa pandemiya ay matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga kababaihan at bata sa loob ng kanilang tahanan.
“It is imperative that we put an end to domestic violence and view women as human beings who deserve love and respect. Our country will not be able to achieve genuine sustainable development if only half the population is working at full capacity or is benefitting from economic progress,” diin pa nito.
