345,000 OFWs naapektuhan ng pandemic ng COVID-19

Umabot na sa 345,000 na Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) ang naapektuhan ng COVID-19.

Sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development sinabi ni Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III na sa nasabing bilang, mayroong 191,000 na OFWs ang piniling manatili sa bansa kung saan sila naroroon.

Ito ay sa pag-asang makababalik sila sa trabaho pagkatapos ng pandemya.

Mayroon naman nang 59,000 ang nakauwi na sa bansa, at 42,000 pa ang inaasahang darating.

Samantala, sinabi ni Bello na plano ng DOLE na humiling ng dagdag na budget para sa AKAP Program ng ahensya.

Sa ilalim ng programa, binibigyan ng P10,000 tulong-pinansyal ang mga naapektuhang OFW.

Ayon kay Bello, P2.5 billion ang inisyal na budget para sa programa target matulungan ang 250,000 na OFWs.

Pero sa ngayon ay umabot na aniya sa 500,000 na OFWs ang naghain ng aplikasyon.
