Guilty verdict kay Maria Ressa, mistulang pagkitil sa press freedom at freedom of speech

Mistulang pagpatay sa press freedom at freedom of speech ang naging hatol ng Mababang Korte sa kasong cyber libel ni Maria Ressa at researcher-writer na si Rey Santos Jr.

Ayon ito sa pahayag ng National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP).

Tinawag ng NUJP na “dark day” ang araw na ito hindi lang para sa independent Philippine media kundi sa lahat ng Filipino.

“This is a dark day not only for independent Philippine media but for all Filipinos. The verdict basically kills freedom of speech and of the press,” ayon sa NUJP.

Pero sinabi ng NUJP na ang naging hatol kina Ressa ay hindi magiging dahilan para maduwag ang mga mamamayag.

Magpapatuloy aniya ang ang paglaban sa lahat ng hakbang o pagtatangka na sikilin ang press freedom.
