Magtatayo ang Philippine Navy ng detachment sa Fuga Island na isa sa mga lugar na pinagtatayuan ng mga istraktura g China.
Ang go signal ay kasabay ng memorandum of agreement (MOA) na pinirmahan nina Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad at Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) administrator Secretary Raul Lambino araw ng Miyerkules.
“The Philippine Navy is very thankful to Sec. Lambino and his team for agreeing to expand the previous memorandum of agreement, and effectively accommodating more possibilities for the navy to enhance its capability in safeguarding our northern frontier and at the same time contribute to the socio-economic development in Northern Luzon,” ani Empedrad.
Ayon kay Navy public affairs chief Lcmdr. Ma. Christina Roxas, ang MOA ang magbibigay daan sa konstruksyon ng Navy detachment sa naturang isla.
Ang isla ay pag-aari ng Isla Fuga Pacific Resort Inc. na nag-iisang pinamumunuan ng CEZA.
Sakop nito ang Santa Ana, Cagayan at mga isla ng Barit at Mabbag sa Aparri.
Noong Agosto ay naiulat na ang Fuga Island, isa sa tatlong strategic locations, ay nais patayuan ng China ng economic hubs.
Samantala, magtatayo rin ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ng mga lighthouse sa isla at 12 pang lugar sa Hilagang Luzon kabilang ang iba pang lugar sa northern extension ng Philippine archipelago.
Hakbang ito ng Phil. Navy sa gitna ng pag-angkin ng China ng mga teritoryo sa rehiyon.
