Duterte nanawagan sa western countries na ihinto ang pagtatapon ng basura sa Asya
Mariin ang naging panawagan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa western countries na ihinto ang pagtatapon ng kanilang mga basura sa mga bansa sa Asya.
Sa ‘Special Lunch on Sustainable Development’ ng 35th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit sa Thailand, iginiit ni Duterte na ang Pilipinas, Malaysia at Indonesia ay binabaha ng foreign trash.
Ayon sa pangulo, para mapaganda ang sitwasyon ng kapaligiran kailangan isaalang-alang ang mga bagay na itinatapon ng tao.
“If we are talking about improving the ecology of the place, the environment, then we must take into account what we dump,” ani Duterte.
Dahil dito, partikular na sinabi ng pangulo na dapat maging maingat ang Western countries sa pagtatapon ng kanilang mga basura kabilang na ang mga isasailalim sa recycling.
“I think, Mr. Chair, this is as good as any other time and any place to tell the other countries, the Western countries, to be more circumspect,” dagdag ng pangulo.
Ikwinento rin ni Duterte ang naging sigalot ng Pilipinas at Canada matapos ang 69 toneladang basura na ipinadala nito sa bansa.
Naibalik sa Canada ang mga basura makaraan ang mahigpit na utos ng pangulo.
“When I was told that this garbage has been sent to us by some countries, I ordered immediately that they’d be shipped out on the first ship going to the North American continent. And I told them that if they do not accept their garbage, then you just drop the container near their ports,” ani Duterte.
