Pagbubuo ng Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, hiniling ng enviromental group
Hinikayat ng environmental group na Oceana si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na gawing prayoridad ang pagbubuo ng departamento para sa fishesries issues sa bansa.
Sa inilabas na pahayag, sinabi ni Oceana vice president Atty. Gloria Ramos na umaasa ang grupo na babanggit ng pangulo ang pag-prayoridad sa pagbubuo ng Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources sa ikaapat na State of the Nation Address (SONA) sa Lunes.
Naniniwala silang dapat itong ihiwalay sa Department of Agriculture (DA) dahil sa pagkasira ng fisheries at marine biodiversity na nagpapalala sa kahirapan at pagkagutom sa coastal at fisherfolk communities.
Kabilang ang Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) sa mga sangay sa DA.
Ayon pa kay Ramos, kailangan ding istriktong ipatupad ang Fisheries Code para maiwasan ang hindi kontroladong pangingisda sa karagatang sakop ng bansa.
Maliban dito, dapat din aniyang gawing urgent ang mga panukalang batas ukol sa single-use ng plastic.
