Pagpapanagot sa mga nasa likod ng paglubog ng Filipino boat, ipinanawagan ng US ambassador

Naniniwala si United States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim na isang seryosong sitwasyon ang naganap sa Recto Bank noong June 9 kung saan binangga ang bangkang pangisda ng mga Filipino.

Sa panayam ng media sa Davao City, sinabi ni Kim na bukod sa imbestigasyon, dapat ding mapanagot ang mga nasa likod ng insidente kasabay ang paggawa ng mga hakbang upang hindi na ito maulit sa hinaharap.

“I think there should be investigation and there should be full accountability. We need to take measures that we prevent accidents or incidents like that from happening again,” giit ni Kim.

Ayon kay Kim, dapat maging paalala ang insidente sa kahalagahan ng Code of Conduct sa South China Sea.

“I think the US has continued to support efforts by the region to come up with a meaningful code of conduct. So I hope that that effort will continue,” ani Kim.

Sinabi pa ng US ambassador na responsibilidad ng mga mangingisda na iligtas ang kanilang kapwa sa oras ng kagipitan.

Pinasalamatan naman ni Kim ang mga Vietnamese sa paglitas sa 22 mangingisdang Pinoy.

Naniniwala naman si Kim na epektibong matutugunan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at Philippine Coast Guard ang mga kahalintulad na sitwasyon sa tulong ng US.

“I think we have done quite a bit of activities with the AFP, including the Coast Guard and I think as you build capacities, agencies will be able to deal with such situations more effectively. The US works to protect international rights,” ani Kim.
