Brunei hindi na itutuloy ang gay death penalty matapos umani ng batikos

Inanunsyo ng Sultan of Brunei na hindi na nito itutuloy ang pagpapatupad ng parusang kamatayan laban sa gay sex matapos ang malawakang kritisismo.

Naglabas ng moratorium si Sultan Hassanal Bolkia upang mapakansela ang pagpapatupad ng death penalty.

Ito ay para mapahupa ang batikos kabilang ang mula sa international personalities na sina George Clooney at Elton John.

Maraming multinational companies ang nagpatupad ng ban sa pagbook sa hotels ng sultan.

May ilan ding travel companies ang inihinto ang pag-promote sa Brunei bilang isang tourist destination.

Sa ilalim ng Sharia law, noong April 3 ay epektibo dapat ang death by stoning laban sa mga guilty sa gay sex, adultery at rape with death.

Naniniwala naman ang sultan ng Brunei na sa oras na mabigyang linaw ang Sharia law ay maiitindihan ng mga tao ang merito ng batas.

“I am aware that there are many questions and misperceptions with regard to the implementation of the [Syariah Penal Code Order] SPCO. However, we believe that once these have been cleared, the merit of the law will be evident,” ani Bolkia.
