Ganito inilarawan ng Malacañang ang pagtatalaga ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kay Justice Lucas Bersamin bilang bagong Supreme Court Chief Justice.
Ayon kay Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo, si Bersamin ang most senior justice.
Sa website ng Supreme Court si Associate Justice Antonio Carpio ay itinalaga noong 2001 samantalang si Bersamin ay naitalaga sa SC noong 2009.
Sinabi pa ni Panelo na nasa ika-siyam na puwesto si Bersamin nang kumuha ng bar examinations noong 1973.
Bukod kay Bersamin, itinalaga rin ng pangulo si Court of Appeals Associate Justice Rosemarie Carandang bilang bagong Associate Justice ng Supreme Court.
Kumpiyansa aniya ang palasyo na magagampanan nina Bersamin at Carandang ang kanilang mga bagong tungkulin at pananatilihin ang judicial excellence.
“Both Justices belong to what PRRD calls “the best and the brightest” as Chief Justice Bersamin placed 9th in the 1973 Bar Examinations while Associate Justice Carandang also claimed the same spot in the 1975 Bar Examinations”, dagdag pa ni Panelo.
Tiwala rin aniya ang palasyo na isusulong ng dalawa ang independence ng SC at lalabanan ang mga pasaway na miyembro ng hudikatura at magiging guardian ng rule of law.
