Nagkausap sa pamamagitan ng telepono sina US State Department Secretary Michael Pompeo at si Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Sec. Teodoro Locsin Jr.
Tinawagan ni Pompeo si Locsin para batiin ito sa kaniyang bagong posisyon sa gobyerno.
Tiniyak din ni Pompeo kay Locsin na magpapatuloy ang alyansa ng US at Pilipinas kasabay ng pagkilala sa kahalagahan ng Pilipinas sa Indo-Pacific Region.
Tinalakay din ng dalawang opisyal ang mga hakbang na ginagawa para matugunan ang mga regional issue gaya ng sa North Korea, South China Sea at counter-terrorism efforts.
