Pilipinas, nagdadalamhati sa pagkamatay ni dating UN Sec. Gen. Kofi Annan

Nagpahayag ng kalungkutan ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas sa pagkamatay ni dating United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano na hindi makakalimutan ng Pilipinas ang hindi matatawarang ‘commitment’ ni Annan sa multilateralism na naging susi upang magkaisa ang mga bansang may alitan.

“The Philippines will remember Kofi Annan for his unwavering commitment to multilateralism that reinvigorated the United Nations and brought peace to places around the world that have been torn apart by conflict,” ani Cayetano.

Isinalarawan niya rin si Annan bilang ‘champion of humanity’.

Ani Cayetano, ang dignidad, pananaw at determinasyon ni Annan ay dahilan para maging mas maganda ang mundo sa kasalukuyan.

Sinabi ng kalihim na si Annan ang nagpasimula at nagtulak sa mga programa tulad ng UN Global Compact, Millenium Summit, Global Fund at UN reform na lubhang nakatulong sa kasalukuyang international environment.

Dahil anya sa mga katangiang ito, ay kailanman ay lubos ang magiging pasasalamat ng Pilipinas kay Annan.

Si Annan na isang Nobel Peace Prize awardee ay nasawi nitong sabado sa Bern, Switzerland sa edad na 80.
