Nagkaroon ng “phreatic explosion” ang Bulkang Mayon, araw ng Linggo, ayon sa Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Ayon kay Phivolcs resident volcanologist Ed Laguerta, naganap ang pagbubuga ng 500 metrong abo dakong 12:34 ng hapon.
Posible pa rin aniyang makaranas ng iba’t ibang aktibidad ang bulkan sa kabila ng unti-unting pagbabalik sa normal ng restiveness nito.
Dahil dito, inirekomenda ng Phivolcs na manatili sa alert level 2 status ng bulkan.
Maliban sa Mayon, kasalukuyang nasa alert level 2 rin ang Bulkang Bulusan kung saan nasa moderate level of unrest.
Bunsod nito, inabisuhan ang Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) na hindi pa mabibigyan ng go signal ng Phivolcs ang ahensya para ibaba ang alert status ng dalawang bulkan.
