Pagkawala ng trabaho ng nasa 80,000 marino ibinabala ni Rep. Bertiz

Ibinabala ni ACTS OFW Partylist Rep. John Bertiz ang pagkawala ng trabaho ng nasa 80,000 seafearer sa bansa.

Ayon kay Bertiz, ito ang negatibong epekto sakaling bumagsak ang Pilipinas sa isinasagawang review ng European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).

Sinabi nito na kung mabibigong makasunod ang Pilipinas sa International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) ay posibleng mawalan ng trabaho ang nasabing mga marino na naka-deploy sa European merchant na mga barko.

Paliwanag ng mambabatas, ito ay dahil hindi kikilalanin ng European shipping companies ang certification ng mga Pinoy seaman.

Kinukwestyon ng EMSA ang kakayahan ng Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) na tiyaking naipatutupad ang STCW, na nagtatakda ng minimum qualification standards para sa ship masters, officers at watch personnel.

Umaasa namam ang mambabatas na magagawan ito ng paraan ni MARINA administrator Rey Leonardo.
