“Full-Distance” Ironman race ginanap sa Subic, Zambales

Sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon sa kasaysayan ng Philippine sports, ginaganap ngayon ang “full-distance” Ironman race sa Subic Bay, Zambales ngayong araw, June 03.

Iba’t ibang local at international athletes ang nakipagsapalaran sa 3.86-kilometer swim, 180.25-kilometer bike at 42.2-kilometer run.

Bago ito, nagkaroon muna ng flag ceremony na pinangunahan ni SEA Games gold medalist Nikko Huelgas.

Opisyal na nag-umpisa ang karera dakong alas-7:20 ng umaga, at inaasahang matatapos mamayang alas-3:00 ng hapon.

At dahil sa init ng panahon, nagposte ang organizer ng hydration stations at pit stops sa race course upang matiyak na hydrated ang mga participant.

Mayroon din mga ambulansya at medical personnel na naka-antabay para agad marespondehan ang mga atletang makararamdam ng atensyong medical.

Para sa taong ito, nabatid na ang pinakabatang competitor ay nasa edad na 19-anyos, habang ang pinakamatanda ay isang Japanese na may edad na 63-anyos.
