Sereno at De Castro nagbangayan sa pagsisimula ng oral argument sa quo warranto petition

Nanindigan si Solicitor General Jose Calida na ang bansa ay nangangailangan ng isang mas qualified at maayos na chief justice.

Sa kanyang opening statement sa pagsisimula ng oral argument kaugnay sa quo warranto petition laban sa Punong Mahistrado, sinabi ni Calida na nagpapanggap  lamang sa kanyang posisyon si Chief Justice on-leave Maria Lourdes Sereno.

“In all candor, the Filipino people deserve a better chief justice. The Court must not allow a person who lacks integrity and has questionable qualifications to sit at the pinnacle of the judicial department… It would seem unseemly for the members of this Court to permit such a person to sit among them despite her ineligibility”, ayon kay Calida.

Bilang isang mataas na opisyal ng bansa, sinabi ni Calida na dapat sumusunod sa simpleng mga batas si Sereno tulad ng pagsusumite ng tamang Statement of Assets and Liabilities and Networth (SALN).

Samantala, sa pagsisimula pa lamang ng oral argument at naging mainitan na ang sagutan sa pagitan nina Sereno at Associate Justice Teresita De Castro.

Sumentro ang pagtatanong ni De Castro sa kabiguan ni Sereno na magsumite ng tamang SALN.

Pero nanindigan naman ni Sereno na walang mali sa kanyang mga ginawa dahil dumaan naman umano sa proseso ng Judicial and Bar Council ang kanyang nomination bilang justice hanggang sa siya’y mapili bilang chief justice sa Supreme Court.
