Commissioner Sheriff Abas, itinalagang bagong chairman ng Comelec
Si Commissioner Sheriff Abas ang itinalaga ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na bagong chairman ng Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Base sa appointment paper na nilagdaan ni Duterte noong November 2, papalitan ni Abas si Chairman Andres Bautista na nagbitiw sa kaniyang pwesto.
Hanggang sa February 2, 2022 ang termino ni Abas bilang chairman ng poll body.
Si Abas ay pamangkin ni Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal.
Bilang Comelec commissioner, siya ang namuno sa packing and shipping committee.
Bago maitalaga bilang Comelec commissioner, naging acting assistant regional director si Abas ng Civil Service Commission sa Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
