Para makapagsagawa ng malalim na imbestigasyon sa pagpatay kay Pasay City Councilor Borbie Rivera, binuo ang Special Investigation Team Rivera.
Itinalaga ni Southern Police District Director, Chief Supt. Tomas Apolinario si Chief Insp. Rey Viloria ang Deputy Chief of Police ng Las Piñas bilang pinuno ng Special Investigating Team.
May 22 opisyal at miyembro ang grupo bukod pa sa ilang imbestigador ng Southern CIDG na tutulong din sa pag-iimbestiga.
Samantala, ayon naman kay Las Piñas Police Chief Sr. Supt. Marion Balonglong, nag-abiso na sila sa pamunuan ng SM Southmall para makakuha ng kopya ng CCTV footages sa door number 4 kung saan pinagbabaril si Rivera.
Sa inisyal na pag-iimbestiga nadiskubre na sa lungsod pa lang ng Pasay may mga iba pang mga kasong kinaharap sa korte si Rivera simula noong 1992 hanggang sa kasalukuyan, may mga nabasura na ngunit may nililitis pa partikular na ang three counts of frustrated homicide.
