Pilipinas, umtras na sa hosting ng 2019 SEA Games

Umatras na ang Pilipinas sa pagho-host sa 2019 Southeast Asian Games dahil sa kasalukuyang sitwasyon sa Mindanao at sa banta ng terorismo.

Sinabi ni Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez, mas importanteng pagkagastusan ng gobyerno ang rehabilitasyon sa Marawi City.

“Due to the current situation in Mindanao and the problem of terrorism and atrocities, we regret to inform you that we will no longer push through with the hosting of the biennial meet,” Ayon kay Ramirez.

Inanunsyo ni Ramirez ang pasya ng PSC sa isang press conference sa PSC headquarters sa Maynila. Taong 2005 nang huling mag-host ng SEA Games ang Pilipinas kung saan tayo ang itinanghal na overall champion nang makakuha ng 113 gold, 84 silver at 94 bronze medals.

Kasabay nito, sinabi ni Ramirez na tuloy naman ang pagbibigay ng buong suporta ng pamahalaan sa mga atleta ng Pilipinas na nakatakdang lumaban sa SEA Games sa Kuala Lumpur, Malayasia mula August 19 hanggang 31.

Nasa P279 million ang inilaan ng PSC para sa mga atletang kalahok sa kompetisyon.
