Nagbitiw sa pwesto ang special envoy ng Washington sa Afghanistan at Pakistan, kasabay ng paghahanda ng US sa pagpapadala ng mas maraming tropa sa rehiyon.
Ayon sa isang Senior State Department official, umalis sa pwesto si Acting Special Representative Laurel Miller ng walang napapangalanang kapalit.
Sinabi naman ni State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert na babalik na si Miller sa isang posisyon sa Rand Corporation.
Aniya hindi pa nakakapagdesisyon si Secretary of State Rex Tillerson kaugnay ng nabakanteng posisyon.
Nabuo ang posisyon matapos mapagdesisyunan ng mga opsiyal sa US na ang kaguluhan sa Afghanistan at Pakistan ay magkaugnay at dapat magkasamang resolbahin.
