Vehicles move through morning smog on the first day of a two-week experiment to reduce the number of cars to fight pollution in New Delhi, India, Friday, Jan. 1, 2016. The volunteers are meant to encourage people to fall in line with the government’s plan to allow private cars on the roads only on alternate days from Jan. 1-15, depending on whether their license plates end in an even or an odd number.

and the Central Pollution Control Board.
