Ipinatigil na ng Department of environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ang nagaganap na dredging operations sa pampang ng Aklan river.
Ginawa ito ng DENR matapos na matuklasan na walang kaukulang permit ang contractor na STL Panay Resources Co. Ltd. (STLPRCL) mula sa kanila at sa Sanguniang Panlalawigan ng Aklan.
Kasama ang may 60 operatiba mula sa Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard at National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ipinatigil ng DENR ang ginagawang paghuhukay ng Chinese boat na MV Zhong Hai 18 sa mababaw na bahagi ng Aklan river.
Ayon kay DENR Undersecretary Arturo Valdez na siyang pinuno ng National Anti-Environmental Crime Task Force (NAECTF), ang nasabing hakbang ay alinsabay sa cease and desist order na inisyu noong Jan. 26 ni DENR Secretary Gina Lopez base naman sa sumbong ni Kalibo, Aklan Mayor William Lachica.
Paliwanag ni Valdez, walang go-signal mula sa monitoring team ng lalawigan at ng DENR ang nasabing proyekto dahil hindi pa nakukumpleto ng contractor ang requirements na itinakda ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Naaresto ng mga operatiba mula sa dredging boat ay 15 undocumented Chinese na walang maipakitang passport at mineral ore transport permit para ss kanilang mga kargamento.
Hinala rin ng DENR na sangkot ang mga ito sa black sand mining.
