PCG, humiling ng dagdag-kagamitan vs mga pirata

Nakiusap ang Philippine Coast Guard ng pagbili ng high-speed boats na armado ng dalawang kalibre trentang machine guns kasunod ng nangyaring pagpatay sa walong mangingisda sa Zamboanga noong nakaraang linggo.

Paliwanag ni PCG officer-in-charge Commodore Joel Garcia kay Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, ito ay upang mapaigting ang patrolya at armas laban sa mga pirata sa Zamboanga, Basila, Sulu at Tawi-tawi.

Ayon kay PCG spokesman Commander Armand Balilo, nangako si Tugade na tutulungan ang ahensiya sa mga pangangailangan nito sa pagpapabuti ng isinasagawang anti-piracy measures.

Napagkasunduan aniya ng DOTr at PCG na makuha ang mga naturang gamit sa darating na Marso.

Maliban sa karagdagang kagamitin, iniungkat din ni Garcia ang pagkakaroon ng registration at pag-isyu ng plaka sa lahat ng uri ng bangka sa tulong ng Maritime Industry Authority, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources at local government units.
