Pinag-aaralan na ng Duterte administration ang tuluyang pagbasura sa Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca).
Sa kanyang talumpati sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 bago tumulak patungo sa Japan ay sinabi ng pangulo na hindi na kailangan ng Pilipinas ang mga sundalo mula sa ibang bansa.
Ang Edca ay nilagdaan noong 2014 na naglalayong pag-ibayuhin ang military ties sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at ng U.S.
Nauna nang sinabi ni Duterte na masyadong dehado ang bansa sa mga kasunduang pinasok ng mga nakalipas na administrasyon sa U.S government.
Ipinatigil na rin ng pangulo ang joint military war games sa pagitan ng U.S at ng Pilipinas.
“I look forward to the time when I no longer see any military groups or soldier in my country, except the Filipino soldier….I really hate it. I don’t want it. We don’t need it. There’s not going to be any war in the future,” paliwanag ni Duterte.
