Endangered sea turtle nailigtas ng Coast Guard sa Zamboanga City

Nailigtas ng mga tauhan ng Philippine Coast Guard ang isang pawikan habang nagsasagawa ng maritime patrol sa Sacol Island sa Zamboanga City sakay ng barko ng Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

Ang nailigtas na endangered sea turtle ay isang uri ng “Olive Ridley Turtle” na tinatawag ding Pacific ridley sea turtle.

Isa itong medium-sized na pawikan na kabilang sa limang turtle species na matatagpuan sa Pilipinas at protektado sa ilalim ng Wildlife Resources and Conservation Act at Fishery Code.

Nakitaan ng sugat ang pawikan sa kaniyang tiyan kaya nahihirapan itong kumilos.

Dinala na ng mga tauhan ng Coast Guard South Western Mindanao ang pawikan sa Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Doon ay pansamantala itong pangangalagaan hanggang sa gumaling bago tulluyang ibalik sa kaniyang natural habitat.
