Weightlifter na si Hidilyn Diaz, naka-silver sa Rio Olympics

Sa wakas, makalipas ang mahabang 20 taon, muling makakapag-uwi ng medalya ang koponan ng Pilipinas sa 2016 Olympics.

Nakuha ng 25-anyos na lady weightlifter mula  Zamboanga City na si Hidilyn Diaz ang silver medal sa katatapos lamang na 53 kilogram weightlifting event sa Rio.

Nabuhat ni Hidilyn ang kabuuang 200 kilogram sa snatch at clean and jerk attempt kaya’t nakasiguro ito ng silver medal.

Si Diaz ang unang Pilipinang babae na makakapag-uwi ng medalya mula sa Olympics.

Huling nakakuha ng medalya ang Pilipinas nang maiuwi ni Onyok Velasco ang silver medal sa larangan ng boksing noong 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
