Nagpatupad na ng suspensyon ang Philippine National Police (PNP) sa lahat ng operasyon nila laban sa New People’s Army (NPA).
Ito ay matapos ang deklarasyon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ng unilateral ceasefire sa kaniyang State of the Nation Address (SONA) noong Lunes.
Ayon kay Police Director Benjamin Magalong, deputy chief for operations ng PNP, nagpalabas na sila ng memorandum nag-aatas sa lahat ng kanilang regional at provincial police offices at mga national support unit para suspendihin ang mga operasyoon laban sa CPP/NPA/NDF.
Sa nasabing memorandum, nakasaad na nagdedeklara ang PNP ng Suspension of Offensive Police Operations(SOPO) sa buong bansa.
“A Suspension of Offensive Police Operations against the (CPP/NPA/National Democratic Front) is hereby declared nationwide effective immediately,” ayon sa memorandum.
Inatasan ang lahat ng units na itigil ang pagsasagawa ng tactical police operations laban sa CPP/NPA/NDF.
Nilinaw naman ni Magalong, na hindi sakop ng SOPO ang mga normal law enforcement operations kabilang na ang pagsisilbi ng warrant of arrest, pagpapatupad ng search warrant, pagsasagawa ng anti-criminality patrols at paglalagay ng checkpoints.
