CHED chief: Walang Chinese studes sa public HEIs sa Cagayan sa private lang
Inamin ni Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Prospero de Vera III na maraming Chinese students sa isang pribadong unibersidad sa Tuguegarao City.
Ngunit, sinabi din ni de Vera, na wala kahit isang Chinese citizen ang naka-enroll sa anumang public higher education institutions (HEIs) sa Cagayan.
“But there is a significant number of Chinese students enrolled in Saint Paul University Philippines (SPUP) – Tuguegarao City,” ani de Vera.
Paliwanag ng opisyal ang SPUP ay may awtonomiya na tumanggap ng mga banyagang estudyante at ito ay bahagi ng tinatawag niyang “internalization efforts” ng HEIs sa bansa.
“The foreign students are attracted by the affordable cost of quality education, the use of English as a medium of instruction, and the globally recognized quality of instruction in such fields as medicine, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, public health, and engineering,” katuwiran ng opisyal.
Sinabi pa ni de Vera na ang mga reklamo ng mga paglabag sa kaugnay sa mga banyagang estudyante ay maari ipaabot sa Inter-Agency Committee on Foreign Students, na binubuo ng Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Education (DepEd), Bureau of Immigration, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at CHED.
Ang pahayag na ito ni de Vera ay reaksyon sa mga pangamba at pag-aalala na maaring banta sa pambansang seguridad ang pagdagsa ng mga Chinese citizens sa Cagayan para mag-aral.
May mga alegasyon ukol sa “diploma-for-a-fee” modus na kinasasangkutan ng mga banyagang estudyante.
