Pinsala dahil sa El Niño umabot na sa P357M, 8,000 magsasaka apektado
Ibinahagi ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na nasa P357,4 milyon na ang halaga ng pinsala dulot ng El Niño sa sektor ng agrikultura at halos 8,000 magsasaka na ang apektado.
Hanggang kahapon, apektado na ang Ilocos Region, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, at Zamboanga Peninsula.
Sa lawak ng pinsala, ayon pa sa DA, 79.54 porsiyento ay sa bigas, 16.98 porsiyento sa mais at 3.47 porsiyento naman sa high-value crops.
May 5,011 ektarya ng taniman ng palay ang napinsala at kumakatawan ito sa kalahating porsiyento ng taniman at 11,480 metriko tonelada na ng produksyon ang naapektuhan, na 0.12 porsiyento naman ng inaasahang ani ngayon “dry cropping season.”
“Potential production losses from 6,523 hectares affected by the dry spell are estimated at 11,480 metric tons for palay, 2,897 MT for corn, and 225 MT for high-value crops,” ayon pa sa kagawaran.
