Naghain ng panukala si House Deputy  Minority Leader Bernadette Herrera para sa automated cashless toll collection sa expressways.

Layon aniya ng inihain niyang House Bill 8161 na mapaigting pa ang kaligtasan ng motorista at mabawasan ang pagsisikip sa tollways partikular na tuwing “peak holiday seasons.”

Bukod dito, nais din ni maituring na paglabag sa batas-trapiko ang hindi pagbabayad ng toll.

“By making non-payment of toll fees a traffic violation, we are sending a clear message that traffic rules must be followed. This is a fundamental step in ensuring the safety of our tollways,” ayon sa kinatawan ng Bagong Henerasyon party-list.

Paliwanag pa niya nakasaad sa panukala ang P1,000 multa at suspensyon ng driver’s license ng isang buwan, P2,000 multa naman kapag naulit ang paglabag at tatlong buwan na suspensyon ng lisensiya at anim na buwan na suspensyon na lisensiya bukod sa P5,000 ang kahaharapin kapag lumabag pa sa pangatlong pagkakataon.

Ayon pa kay Herrera ang mga masisingil na multa ay gagamitin naman sa pagsasa-ayos ng road safety signages at pagpapaigting ng tollway enforcement gaya ng speeding, reckless driving, overloading at hindi pagbabayad ng toll.

Nakasaad din sa panukalang-batas ang mandatory use ng tandardized Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) systems  sa lahat ng  tollways sa bansa.

“Automated cashless toll collection is more than just a convenience; it’s a way to reduce traffic congestion, especially during peak holiday seasons.  Our highways and expressways are the lifeblood of our transportation network. With this bill, we’re taking significant strides to make them safer and more efficient,” dagdag pa nito.

Kumpiyansa si Herrera na kapag naisabatas ang kanyang panukala mas magiging mabilis at ligtas ang pagbiyahe sa tollways.
