Inanunsiyo ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang napipintong pagtaas ng multa sa mga hindi awtorisadong gagamit o dadaan sa EDSA Bus Carousel lane.
Ang hakbang ay bunsod ng obserbasyon na marami pa ring pribadong motorista ang dumadaan sa naturang eksklusibong linya para sa mga bus.
Ito ang sinabi ni acting MMDA chairman Don Artes at aniya maging mga motorcycle riders ay patuloy na dumadaan sa “exclusive bus lane.”
Paalala niya ang linya sa EDSA ay eksklusibo lamang sa public utility buses, ambulansiya at marked government vehicles na rumeresponde sa emergencies.
“To serve as a deterrent, the MMDA, through the Metro Manila Council, decided to increase the prescribed fines and impose corresponding suspension of driver’s license depending on the frequency of offense,” aniya.
Sa kasalukuyan ang multa ay P1,000 sa bawat paglabag.
Sa ilalim ng MMDA Regulation No. 23-002, ang mas mataas na multa ay :
First Offense – P5,000
Second Offense – P10,000 plus one month suspension of driver’s license, and required to undergo a road safety seminar
Third Offense – P20,000 plus one year suspension of driver’s license
Fourth Offense – P30,000 plus recommendation to Land Transportation Office for revocation of driver’s license
Paglilinaw na lamang ni Artes na ang hakbangin ay hindi maituturing na panggigipit sa mga mahihirap at hindi upang makalikom ng pera.
