Sen. Mark Villar nabahala sa higit 400 estudyante na nag-suicide noong 2021-2022
Naalarma si Senator Mark Villar sa pagsirit ng bilang ng mga estudyante na nagpakamatay noong 2021-2022.
Ibinahagi niya na base sa impormasyon mula sa Department of Education (DepEd), 404 estudyante ang napa-ulat na nagpakamatay sa nabanggit na panahon, bukod pa sa 2,147 na nagtangkang mag-suicide.
“Nakakabahala po ang mga kaso ng suicide sa ating mga kabataan recently. The increasing number of suicide and suicide attempts among Filipino youth merits our intervention as we recognize that the challenges and mental health concerns of our youth brought about by the pandemic has been heightened by the rapid changes of the post-pandemic world to which they are expected to adapt,” sabi pa ni Villar.
Ang sitwasyon ang nagtulak kay Villar para ihain ang Senate Bill No. 1669, o ang Act to Provide Early Youth Suicide Intervention and Prevention Expansion sa layon na mapagtibay pa ang mga hakbang na maaring gawin para mapigilan ang suicide sa hanay ng mga mag-aaral.
Layon din ng panukala na magkaroon ng “life planning education” sa mga kabataang Filipino sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng sapat na pagsasanay at kaalaman sa “stakeholders” sa mga paaralan.
Nakasaad din sa panukala ang pagkakaroon ng psychologist sa bawat eskuwelahan.
“Kailangan po nating matutukan ang kalagayan ng mental health ng ating mga kabataan, lalo na ngayon na dumarami ang kaso ng mga estudyante who are committing suicide. Through this bill, we are going to provide our youth with the necessary intervening methods like counseling and mental health improvement sessions that will help them,” sabi pa ng senador.
